We often talk about things that drive us, motivate us, our passion, our WHY. Over the next few months we will introduce you to members of our Board of Directors, a diverse group of men and women from all walks of life. Our wish is to give you a chance to learn more about them and ask, WHY Ronald McDonald House Charities?
Laura Boschert has served on the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern Colorado Board of Directors since 2012 and as Board President in 2021. Laura practiced Pediatrics in Colorado Springs for 37 years, until retiring in 2019. Many of the patients she cared for benefited from the services provided by our Ronald McDonald House.
Laura’s “why” is not difficult to understand, she wrote, “Thankfully, our family never needed to use the services of the Ronald McDonald House but we did have several medical crises with our own children, so I can empathize with the anxiety and terror every family with ill or injured children feel. Obviously, after an entire career of caring for kids and their families, it is my passion, which makes the Ronald McDonald House mission a no-brainer. The fact that all of our work fund-raising stays in our community, makes RMHC especially attractive among all of the amazing children’s charities that could command my time. The staff is kept lean, committed and dedicated but limited, so that the bulk of every dollar earned for the charity goes toward programming. As a volunteer at RMHCSC I can be personally involved in a very real way. By talking to parents, offering to prepare meals, involvement in fundraising events, I am further energized to come back to volunteer and donate again and again.”
